Context & Introduction

 

Wipro as an Oracle Retail implementer provides services specialized in architecture design, implementation, management and maintenance for Oracle Retail (OR) suite of products. The OR suite uses a solid worldwide adopted solution both in terms of data handling and middleware solutions.

In terms of data handling, Oracle Database (DB) is the centralized point for storing and transforming data from all products that make the OR suite.

In order to ensure data propagation/synchronization between Oracle Retail modules and/or legacy systems, ORIB (Oracle integration bus) is used. This is a near real time technology which ensure:

• Persistence, message delivery system using 2 phase commit;
• Sequencing, EG message X2 will only be delivered after message X1;
• Security, messages will not be lost in case of error.

Being a very powerful tool, monitoring is key in order to address any issue in due time; currently, as there is no automatic monitoring, events and alerts are raised manually.

The next step is to further evolve existing monitoring tool to meet support requirements like self-healing, monitoring & alerting and auto restart, through automation, decreasing human involvement. 

Objectives / Goals

 

The objective is to create a monitoring and recovery framework
that anticipates any event or incident that can put the information flow at risk by:

• Detecting errors and warnings.
• Detecting thresholds levels for JMS topics (EG. If number of messages, reach
  a certain level).
• Identifying possible delays, EG messages are being processed but at a slower rate.
• Detecting other issues, EG. Components are non-responding.
• Sending proper signals in order to restart resume or retry components.

Identifying known errors and act accordingly with predefined solutions  

Working Plan

 

This project will have the duration of 6 months. During this period the candidate will have the opportunity to participate in the activities in scope for this solution: (example)

1. Study ORIB V16.
2. Identify all possible sources and destinations.
3. Implement required monitoring requirements.

Test and document.
